Suggestion of chemical and mechanical recycling service providers – POLREC

In the frame of POLREC Innovation Open Call, Polymeris, the project coordinator, has identified service-providers within its network offering services and R&D support to SMEs for the testing and development of mechanical and chemical recycling solutions for their plastic, rubber and composite waste. These companies, research institutions and technical centres have agreed to be included in this list of service-providers so that they can be contacted by SMEs as part of their applications to the POLREC Innovation Open call.

GEFICCA & SMAC: New alliance in the elastomer industry

On Friday June 30, 2023, a new major player in the elastomer industry came into being with the merger of 3 companies: GEFICCA, SMAC and SOMA now form a group with 300 employees and sales of 25 million euros.

These 3 companies now share their expertise and skills in studies for the development of new elastomers, calculations and vibration testing for the production of technical rubber parts.

POLREC Newsletter N°1

The European project POLREC is funded by the Euroclusters programme of the European Commission. This initiative supports projects that promote the implementation of the new European industrial strategy in industrial ecosystems.

The main objective of the project is to help the industry change from landfilling and burning practices of polymeric waste to mechanical and/or chemical recycling and aims to support and encourage SMEs to adopt recycling processes and use recycled raw materials, with the ambition of contributing to the increased use of recycled polymer-based raw materials, in Europe, to 40% in the next 10 years.

The 2nd edition of the "Forum Multi Matériaux" in Metz on September 11 and 12, 2023

Buoyed by the success of the first edition, which brought together over 200 participants in September 2019 at Michelin in Ladoux (63), MATERALIA, the Pôle Européen de la Céramique and POLYMERIS, have decided to join forces again to organize a second forum on a topical subject: Materials for tomorrow's energy and industry.

The main objective is to bring together industrial and academic players from the three ecosystems interested in technological innovation, and to explore the major challenges of multi-materials by identifying technological trends.

Launch of the European project THERMOFIRE

We are glad to announce the launch of the European project THERMOFIRE – Bio-based fire-retardant thermoplastic composites reinforced with natural fibres - funded by Horizon Europe, started on June, 1st 2023.

The project THERMOFIRE has the objective to develop novel bio-based and recyclable composites with enhanced mechanical properties and fire resistance by using natural fiber reinforcements and bio-based halogen-free flame retardants. The production of these novel composite materials will be scaled up and 3 types of demonstrators will be developed (for aerospace, automotive and textile applications). Through the development of such advanced materials, THERMOFIRE will contribute in EU’s independence towards fossil based polymers.
