WALCHY - WAAM Additive Technology for Hydrogen Valves components

Launched on October 10, 2022, WALCHY is a European project that aims to design, prototype and test the industrial production capabilities of a valve component for the hydrogen energy industry based on a Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) process.

While the production costs of hydrogen are decreasing, the maintenance and infrastructure costs for hydrogen energy are hindering the competitiveness of this industry. The objective of the project is to develop valves with reduced cost and manufacturing time while ensuring environmentally friendly production through the incorporation of recycled materials and the reduction of the amount of metal waste produced during their production. WALCHY will be implemented for a period of 6 months by a consortium composed of the Italian SME Valland and the EDIH (European Digital Innovation Hub) Polytronics coordinated by Polymeris.

This project is funded by the 2nd open call DIH-WOLRD launched by the ICT Innovation for Manufacturing SMEs (I4MS) initiative and funded under the Horizon 2020 program.
