Complementary approaches: Exploring biodegradability between the laboratory and the digital world

Environmental challenges and accelerating regulatory requirements call for a detailed understanding of how substances behave in the environment. Their degradation, transformation and treatment in wastewater treatment plants are key issues for industry. However, anticipating the biodegradability of polymers remains a major and inescapable challenge.
Faced with these challenges, a hybrid approach combining experimentation and molecular simulation is proving to be a powerful and innovative solution. On the one hand, laboratory tests enable us to directly measure the actual degradation of polymers under verified and standardized conditions. On the other, numerical tools such as molecular simulations provide a submicron-scale view of degradation processes, enabling us to anticipate the mechanisms of substance transformation, and optimize test phases.

SCANAE and MS4ALL will present these two approaches in an original direct comparison format. The aim of this webinar will be to highlight the advantages and applications of their respective technologies for assessing polymer biodegradability. Together, they will reveal how the experimental approach and molecular simulations complement each other to optimize the assessment of the fate of substances in the environment.
Polymer manufacturers, eco-design and regulatory players, R&D in chemistry and the environment: don't miss this opportunity to explore these two technologies to meet the challenges of eco-design and polymer fate!

Program:

  • Present the context associated with the fate of polymers
  • Learn about experimental methods and molecular simulations for substance evaluation
  • Illustrate these technologies with concrete examples
  • Identify the complementarities of laboratory and numerical approaches

About SCANAE and MS4ALL :

Since 2015, SCANAE has been contributing to environmental protection by developing innovative, reliable and accessible methods for assessing the fate of substances and their impact on the environment. Guaranteeing scientific and quality data every day supports informed decision-making for more sustainable product design.

MS4ALL, founded in 2023, develops molecular simulations for the digital design of innovative, sustainable and environmentally-friendly materials; for the physicochemical degradation and biodegradation of micropollutants, polymers and any substance likely to impact the environment and health. MS4ALL products are decision-support tools for process design.
